Robert N. Elkins is Of Counsel with the firm and joined the firm's Athens office in September 2010. Mr. Elkins has been in practice for over 30 years and has developed expertise in both criminal and civil litigation. On the civil side, Mr. Elkins focuses on plaintiff's personal injury cases, real estate disputes, contracts, leases, and landlord-tenant issues, and family law (divorce, custody, child support, alimony, modification cases, and adoptions), as well as corporate and business disputes.

Mr. Elkins also has extensive experience in criminal law, first as a prosecutor and he has now spent more than 25 years defending criminal cases. He handles cases ranging from traffic offenses including DUIs, habitual violators, homicide by vehicle, driver's license suspensions and other traffic related offenses and issues to felony cases including murder, aggravated assault, and felony drug offenses. He also handles misdemeanor criminal, drug, alcohol, and false ID cases.

Mr. Elkins is a Columbus, GA native. He is a graduate of the Darlington School in Rome, Georgia, received a B.A. in Business Administration from Vanderbilt University in 1967, then became a pilot in the United States Air Force. He retired as a Captain in 1973.

Mr. Elkins completed his M.B.A. degree in 1972 at the University of Southern Mississippi while still on active duty. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Elkins completed law school at the University of Georgia in 1976 then joined the City Attorney's Office in Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked on a variety of municipal legal issues including zoning and condemnation. Mr. Elkins returned to Athens in 1978 where he served as an assistant district attorney until 1983.

Mr. Elkins has served in leadership roles in of a number of professional, non-profit, and civic organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, Cancer Society, and Athens Justice Project. He has served as president of the Western Circuit (Athens) Bar Association and the Athens Rotary Club.
